It’s time to get angry at the 1%!, a man bellows as a guitar twangs crazily in the background. He’s followed by some other guy’s incoherent ramblings.
Verily, #Occupy Middletown is not a force to be reckoned with.

This must be Middletown, Connecticut, home of my alma mater, Wesleyan U. (The reference to Russell Library confirms it.) Wesleyan is one of the most far-left schools in the US – the Berkeley of the East Coast. The first speaker, the older white guy, is probably one of Wesleyan’s professors, and that’s not a joke.
When I attended in the late 1970s, one of the courses was called “Toward a Socialist America,” and the school has only gone further left since then.
I take much offense to this site, use of this video, title of the video and comment that follows. I am a Wesleyan student and “old white man” is one of my close friends who has never gone to Wesleyan and has never taught at Wesleyan. Wesleyan as a whole cannot claim to be further left then the centrist Democrat Party. Radicals do not feel welcome and are not popular or in many cases not permitted on campus. He and many of my other dear friends in Middletown are just some of the millions of courageous individuals willing and ready to speak up. To the title “Occupy Protesters anarchist commies, confused lefties, delusional lefties, mentally disorder lefties”– Anarchists and Communists, yes tend to have often already seen through the issues of capitalism enough to stand up to Wall Street. But if I were to call someone a confused/delusional lefty it would be the Democratic Party confusing corporatism with progression and trapping disillusioned followers into the hope for change. And “mentally disordered” doesn’t mean anything but if we were to categorize anyone as such then homicidal, profit obsessed corporate persons (under citizens united), CEO/government officials would be top on that list. And to Sauropod, he would not lower his morals to work for Wesleyan and Wesleyan would fear hiring him so if you want to insult Wesleyan or him, please do so separately. I was there the night the video was taken and have much respect for the friends in the background as well. I am sorry that you can’t take their comments to heart.
Okay, so he’s not a Wes prof. Could have been – he’s not that different from some profs I knew. But I stand corrected on that detail.
Otherwise, your comment simply underscores my own points. You’re a far-left radical on the outermost fringe of political discourse, and your complaint about Wesleyan is that it’s not quite radical enough. Well, it will never be radical enough for some people, but it’s far more radical than the American mainstream.
Here’s a second opinion, from someone who (so I gather) is attending Wes right now.
“Predominantly leftist, completely leftist, entirely leftist. Experiences with racial or LGBT groups can be tough because they are often so militant and unwelcoming to reason. The kind of student that would feel out of place is one who does not buy the party line. Four tables in the dining hall:
-white athletes from Boston
-unwashed hippies
-vegans
-LGBT.”

BTW, even Jon Stewart recognizes that Wesleyan has become synonymous with over-the-top PC leftism!
