An Unprecedented Glimpse into the Heroic Rescue of Bait Dogs: A Tale that Tugs at the Heartstrings

Encountering bait dogs post-rescue or adoption is a common occurrence for us, and it never fails to stir my emotions. These stories hold a special place in my heart, and I always find joy in sharing them. Nonetheless, I cannot stress enough the significance of this particular video, as it vividly depicts the crucial process of uncovering these brave dogs’ ordeal.

By sharing this video, we can shed light on the deplorable lives these dogs endure before they are rescued. It emphasizes the urgency of advocating for stronger penalties for dog fighting across the globe. Tom McPhee, the Executive Director of the World Animal Awareness Society (WA2S) and the Producer & Director of the American Strays series, joins forces with Michigan Humane Society Officers to expose a distressing discovery: innocent dogs being used as bait to train fighting dogs. Through their camera lens, they capture the shocking conditions these dogs are subjected to. Bait dogs often endure unimaginable suffering, including broken bones, untreated wounds, sewn lips, infestations of maggots, and severe malnutrition.

“We deal with incidents of dog fighting throughout the year,” shares Jenny Jackson, an officer from the Michigan Humane Society.
“It is disheartening to see that most of the individuals involved in these fights are young kids,” she adds. “They take pit bulls and restrain them in deserted yards, organizing battles in parks with whatever dogs they can find.” These young individuals often neglect the dogs’ wellbeing, including their medical needs, as well as their basic requirements of food, water, and proper shelter. Sadly, these dogs are often left to suffer without receiving the care they deserve.”

Thankfully, the Michigan Humane Society and WA2S stepped in to assist these two pit bulls in need. However, it’s crucial to note that numerous other dogs also require rescue and support.
