After informing his friends and enjoying a few congratulatory drinks, the next task at hand was figuring out what to do with the cherished nugget. “It’s like reeling in a massive fish and not knowing how to handle it! Where should we keep it? I cleaned it with water, wrapped it in aluminum foil, and stashed it in my oven on the first night.” Although it was a bit of a game-changer, he doesn’t plan on quitting his job and retiring just yet. Instead, he envisions buying a van and embarking on a journey across Australia when he has the time, blending travel and exploration with his passion for metal detecting and prospecting.

(Image courtesy of Minelab) As for the nugget, currently resting in a bank vault, a replica is being crafted, and there are strategies underway for an auction. Minelab anticipates that it will fetch over US$190,000 (A$250,000). Last year, another Australian gold prospector stumbled upon an 87-ounce gold nugget while on an expedition near Wedderburn, a town less than 225 km (140 miles) from Melbourne. This nugget, known as the Fair Dinkum nugget, sold for $133K (A$175K) at an auction.
